The Torine were Near-Humans indigenous to Torina. They were set on the cause of preserving the environment of their homeworld.
One of a handful of species indigenous to Elrood Sector, the Torines of Torina could be regarded as the least memorable by travelers visiting from other regions of space. Quite frankly, these soft-spoken, thoughtful people wouldn't have it any other way.
The Torines have lived peacefully with one another on their planet for hundreds of years, and much of their good nature can be attributed to a most unusual communication device. The soft green skin of a Torine can always be found sporting bluish-black pigmentation patterns, which can change shape before ones eyes. The patterns are mood-reactive, and can provide anyone skilled in their recognition keen insight into the feelings of a Torine. Thanks to this unusual physiology, misunderstandings between Torines virtually never take place, since their feelings are, quite literally, written all over their faces. As a result, Torines are unfailingly honest with one another at all times, and enjoy a peace most other species find enviable, to outright baffling.
The trait does have its upside and downside, however. On the upside, a couple of Torines can practically carry on an unspoken conversation in the company of a being of another species, without that being ever catching on. On the downside, the Torines have become so accustomed to the trustworthiness of others of their species, that they are frequently taken advantage of by other spacegoing beings. For this reason, Torines rarely leave their homeworld.
Torines place great emphasis on beauty, most evident in their architecture and their simple, but elegant clothing. The females are invariably taller than the males, and appear even more willowy when compared to their shorter, stockier mates.

Special Abilities:
Pigmentation Language: A Torine's soft green skin is covered with swirling, bluish-black pigmentation patterns, which directly reflect his or her feelings, fears, and desires. Because of this, Torines within line of sight of one another can communicate a great deal without speaking a word. Any emotion-based information (such as, 'I've learned that team two has come to rescue us - the time to attack our jailer is now') can be communicated, while logic or technical based information (such as, 'the password is NTZZ40182') is not. Other beings can learn to recognize these patterns, in the form of the languages specialization: Torine pigmentation.
Story Factors:
Gullible: When a Torine makes any kind of opposed Perception roll versus a non-Torine, he suffers a -2D penalty. The gamemaster may gradually reduce this penalty as the Torine character spends more time out in the galaxy, interacting with other beings.
