Tarc

Species: Tarc
Home Planet: Hjaff
Tarc
The Tarc were sentient crustacean species, indigenous to the planet of Hjaff.
Biology & Appearance:
The Tarc were a carnivorous species that originally evolved from sea-dwelling crustaceans but were forced to adapt to life on land. They were bipeds possessing two legs and four arms. The upper pair of arms were dexterous while the lower arms possessed claws which they used for fighting. Despite their size a Tarc had surprisingly good reflexes, and their large strides when walking allowed them to move quickly.
They stood about two meters tall which was enhanced by their exo-skeletal musculature making them more intimidating in appearance. They never evolved the need for lips, teeth or tongues but instead possessed hollow spikes inside their mouths which would inject acidic saliva into food that would be shredded by the spikes themselves. This led to two stages in digestion with the first and primary form taking place within the mouth. Once the food was shredded into smaller pieces it would then be swallowed by the Tarc. Their diet consisted of sand mollusks and other small creatures native to the deserts of their homeworld. Due to their mouth's structure, Tarc language was spoken in a series of clicks and clacks from their mouth spikes accompanied by growls and grunts.
Culture & History:
Tarcs were generally not violent but possessed a zero tolerance policy in relation to other species, something that could border on xenophobia. The space surrounding their homeworld was colonized but that was the limit of their expansion. It was a crime for a Tarc to leave their home system and those caught leaving were charged with an offense if they did not have the necessary permission.

From Chapter 3:
Rage: The Tarc’s pent-up emotions sometimes cause them to erupt in a violent frenzy. In this state they attack anyone or anything near them, and they cannot be calmed. These rages can happen at any time, but usually they occur during periods of intense stress (such as combat). To resist becoming enraged a character must make a difficult willpower roll. For each successful rage check a player makes, the difficulty for the next check will be greater by 5. A rage usually lasts for 2D+2 rounds, but for each successful rage check a player makes.
Story Factors:
Language: Due to the nature of their vocal apparatus, the Tarc are unable to speak Basic or most other languages. As the Tarc have so effectively isolated themselves from the galactic community, it is exceedingly rare to find anyone who is able to understand them; even most protocal droids are not programmed with the Tarc’s language. As a result, most Tarc who have left (or been banished from) Hjaff have an extraordinarily difficult time trying to communicate with other denizens of the galaxy.
Isolationists: The Tarc are fierce isolationists. They feel that interacting with the galactic community will poison their culture with the luxuries, values, and customs of other societies. If forced into the galaxy, they will look upon all other species and cultures as wicked and inferior.
