Sembla was a planet with shallow seas and volcanic islands. There were vast gardens of coral and valuable crystal in the hottest of Sembla's oceans, and these were often targeted by off-world miners.

The Vurks were a nomadic and seemingly primitive species native to Sembla. The primitive nature of the Vurks was belied by the species' highly advanced philosophical traditions, which stress personal freedom, integrity and honesty in all things. As a species, Vurks are empathetic and serene, and they make exceptional diplomats. Despite their peaceful nature, Vurks were capable combatants who see self-defense as an aspect of their own personal integrity
