     Used to carry supplies to small and isolated installations, as well as to carry particularly valuable small cargoes, the boxy Protal series freighters are light freighters designed to military specifications, and are thusly sought after by the pirates and smugglers of the sector, despite strict Imperial penalties for personal ownership of these craft.     As these ships are designed to meet military specifications, they are capable of taking far greater abuse than most ships of their class, and are capable of carrying out operations in active combat zones.  Guruk System Yards has refitted a number of ships of this class for even more extensive combat capacity, doubling the power of the shields, adding an additional quadlaser turret, and a proton torpedo launcher, at the cost of 20 metric tons of cargo capacity.
