West End Games and the Star Wars D6 System

...[T]here was a time when Star Wars was completely moribund. In the late Eighties, the original film trilogy was a distant memory, the kid-friendly TV specials were done, the Saturday morning cartoons had petered out, and there were no new novels or toys on the horizon...At the end of the Reagan era, it genuinely seemed to many that the lifecycle of George Lucas’ film franchise seen its day in the sun. ...[T]he tabletop game was one of the things that helped keep the the franchise's flame alive in the minds of countless fans. West End’s RPG wasn’t merely a stopgap – it helped to flesh out the details of that galaxy far, far away in the darkest days. In giving players the backstory and framework they needed to have their own adventures in Star Wars, the game became a cornerstone of the Expanded Universe, adding names and story elements that are still in use today.

"How a Pen and Paper RPG Brought 'Star Wars' Back From the Dead," by Chris Baker, Glixel.

Editor's Note

In March 2026, the original D6 Holocron wiki went offline for several days and, rather than roll the dice on whether the site would return, we put a previous archived version from 2023 online so this information does not disappear to the mists of time.

The siterunner for D6 Holocron did a huge service to the community in setting this up and hosting it for so long, and putting up this site is in no way intended to take the spotlight off of them. To the contrary, we don't want their work to be lost.
